Don't Let the Voices Fall Silent
Make the air tremble with the hope for the world as you wish it to be.
Use voices without language—such as vowel sounds and humming sounds.
At all times, at least two voices should be sounding, so that they never fall silent.
Listen closely to others' voices.
Listen closely to your own voice.
This sound installation was developed through a workshop with fifteen participants gathered through an open call. Participants with diverse positions and sensibilities recorded their voices as they vocalized simultaneously for ten minutes, each holding a wish for the world as they hope it to be. Recorded, edited, and composed in collaboration with sound engineer Takeshi Azuma, the space resonates with overlapping voices, clashing voices, and, at times, mechanically edited and controlled voices.
How can the wishes of different people coexist?
What kind of act is it to offer your own desire while receiving the desires of others?
This space is filled with a gathering of voices raised to tremble the air that is always around us, in an attempt to change its course.
When you are surrounded by the air in this space, what do you feel?
Is the air clean?
Is the air peaceful?
Is the air gentle?
Is the air painful?
Is the air frightening?
How do you wish the world to be, and what kind of voice would you give to this space?
